If you want to get your kids away from sitting in front of the television all day, try enticing them with some drawing activities. Many kids love to draw, and these creative drawing ideas--such as simply connecting dots or drawing everyday objects--can spark their imaginations and help them to explore their creativity.
Connect the Dots
Take turns with your child putting dots in random places on a piece of paper. Have your child connect each of the dots to make a picture. Encourage your child to use her imagination in deciding what the picture is. Have her add additional details to the picture. Then have her color the picture in colors of her choice.
Drawings from Everyday Objects
Tape a large piece of paper to a table or another flat surface. With your child, collect small items from around the house, such as cups, dolls, cellphones or scissors. Help your child outline these objects with a pencil. Put the paper away for a day so that it will seem new. The next day, have your child imagine what the shapes on the paper look like. Then help him add details to the shapes and color them in.
Drawing Comparison
Sit with your child, with various drawing implements between you. Hold your piece of paper so that your child cannot see it and have your child do the same. Then take turns calling out the name of something that you are both going to draw. After you finish with your pictures, compare them.
