Turn Your Photo Into A Drawing Or Painting

Turn your favorite moments into a beautiful painting or drawing.

Turning a photo into a painting or a drawing can be done by hand by studying and copying the image. An easier and more efficient way can be done digitally, which allows you to quickly alter any photo you have. It also allows you to tweak parts of the photo and let you play with the different settings without ruining the photo or the tedious process of drawing or painting by hand.

Instructions

Painting

1. Scan your photo onto your computer and save the file to your desktop.

2. Open the file with Adobe Photoshop. If you do not own Photoshop, you can download a free trial from its website.

3. Click on the "Filter" tab from the menu bar on the top of your screen.

4. Click on the "Noise" tab from the drop-down menu and another menu will appear. Select "Median..." and a box with a preview of your photo will open.

5. Move the sliding tab to change the radius of pixels altered. This function will blur and soften the edges of the colors and shapes, making your photo appear to be painted. When satisfied, click "OK" and save your changes under a new file name.

Drawing

6. Open the file in Photoshop. Click the "Image" tab from the menu bar and highlight the "Mode" option from the drop-down menu.

7. Click on "Greyscale." A box will appear asking to discard color information. Click "OK."

8. Click "Filter" from the menu bar and highlight "Stylize." Click on "Find Edges" and it will automatically alter the image. You can finish here or soften the edges by continuing to the next step.

9. Click "Filter," "Stylize" and then "Diffuse." When a box appears, change the mode to "Anisotropic" and select "OK." Save changes under a new file name.
