Make A Koala Costume

Dress up as a koala for an animal-themed party.

If you are going to an animal-themed party, wearing a koala bear costume is ideal -- it is quick, simple and easy to make. The costume is also suitable for kids and adults alike. You can save money by picking up the things you'll need from a second-hand shop or garage sale, or rummage through your clothes and use items you no longer need.

Instructions

1. Cut two oval shapes out of the white material to create a patch of white fur on the chest of the koala. Make the patch big enough to cover the top half of the chest of the person wearing the costume.

2. Sew the white patch of material onto the gray zip-up jacket using the needle and thread. First, cut the oval in half lengthwise and then attach one half next to each side of the zipper, just below the neck, ensuring the jacket can be worn without the material covering the zipper.

3. Cut two three-inch diameter circles out of the white material to make ears for the koala costume. Sew one onto each of the gray circles of material.

4. Get the person wearing the costume to put the jacket on. Put the hood up and find out where to sew the ears. Do this by touching the person's ears through the hood, and then use a pen to make a mark on the material two centimetres above this point.

5. Stitch one ear onto each side of the hood. Check that you sew them on facing the right direction. When the hood is up, the white patch of material should face in the same direction as the person wearing it.

6. Dress up the person wearing the koala costume. Put on the gray sweatpants, gray jacket, gray gloves and black shoes.

7. Use the face paints to create the koala's face by covering most of the face in white paint, painting the nose black, and adding a few black dots across the cheeks.
