Make A Peace Sign Symbol

Peace symbol

The peace symbol was created in 1958 as a protest against the atomic arms race that started during World War II, and has since then become iconic. Whether used to protest war, to oppose animal abuse or worn as a vintage fashion statement, this symbol embodies peace for people all over the world. Its simple design makes it simple to recreate.

Instructions

1. With a pencil, use the large circle to trace a circle onto the paper (see Resources). Put a visible dot in the very middle of the circle. A CD is good for this so you can easily mark the middle of the circle.

2. In the center of the large circle, use a smaller circle stencil to trace a smaller circle, so you have a big "O."

3. Using a straight edge, draw two parallel lines on either side of the center dot. The lines should extend from the top of the inner circle to the center of it.

4. Draw two more sets of parallel lines on either side of the first set, with the two top lines of each set connecting to the first set of parallel lines . The two additional sets of lines should be at 45 degrees.

5. Draw two more sets of parallel lines on either side of the center dot. These two lines should run from the bottom of the inner circle and connect to the two bottom 45-degree lines.

6. Erase the parts of the inner circle between the sets of parallel lines, along with any stray lines or marks.

7. Trace your peace sign with a pen or marker.
