Toy poodles of various colors can be dyed bright shades
Some toy poodle owners are dying their dogs' hair bright colors. This does not hurt the dog if done with non-toxic products and can be completed without spending a fortune on professional hair dyes. Products in your home will do a great job of dying a toy poodle's hair a festive color and washes out much easier then most specialized products.
Instructions
Food-Based Dyes
1. Open a package of flavored drink mix in the color you wish to dye your dog.
Mix it with less water than recommended for drinking.
Use a paint brush to apply the colored water onto the dog.
Another option would be to pour the colored water onto the dog a little at a time and work it into their hair.
2. Food coloring, the same used to color cake icing, is also a good dye for coloring a toy poodle's curly coat.
Dilute the food coloring in water until it is the color you wish your dog to be.
Use a paint brush to apply the food coloring on to the dog or pour the colored water mix onto the dog a little at a time to work it into the coat.
3. Tablets or small bottles of non-toxic Easter egg dye is another food-based dye that could be used to dye a toy poodle's hair. However, do no add the vinegar as you do with the eggs.
Open the tablets and dissolve them in water as the instructions indicate, but do not add the vinegar.
Using a paint brush, paint your small dog with the colored water mixture or pour a little over it at a time and rub the water color into the dog's hair until it is the color you desire.
Non-food Based Dyes
4. Using a colored BloPen, blow an even amount of ink onto the dog in a back and forth motion.
The BloPens would also be ideal for making designs or pictures in your toy poodle's hair rather than covering the entire dog with color in this manner.
5. Mix the Crayola sidewalk chalk with a little water and paint your dog until the desired color emerges. This will lighten with every wash, but tends to remain for many weeks as a light tint of color.
Dry sidewalk chalk applied to the dog is dusty and may dry out the dog's skin causing a dermatitis condition.
6. Break open a non-toxic marker.
Allow the stem of color to soak in a shallow dish of water for about an hour or longer.
Dip a paint brush or basting brush into the colored water and paint the dog's hair where color is wanted.
