Add an extra layer of protection onto music CDs by copy protecting them.
If you are a musician who creates custom audio CDs, you are probably concerned about music piracy, which is a huge problem for recording artists. If a CD has no copy protection encrypted on it, then anyone can rip the CD and put the music on a file-sharing program for the whole world to download for free. Copy protection is not 100-percent foolproof, but it does deter many people from trying to steal the tracks. The only way to copy protect an audio CD is to use an external software program to encrypt the music.
Instructions
1. Place your audio CD into your computer's disc drive.
2. Download and install a software program that adds copy protection to an audio CD. Some programs are free and others cost money (see Resource section).
3. Open the program on your computer by double-clicking on the icon.
4. Find a button that asks you to add the CD contents to the program. It may say something like "Files to Encrypt."
5. Choose the "D:" drive when it asks you to locate your CD. The "D:" drive is the default letter for the CD disc drive.
6. Select "Open" to view your audio files.
7. Click on the "Copy Protect" button or a similar button to start the encryption process.
