Georgia Art Programs

Georgia's universities offer undergraduate and graduate degree programs in various art fields.


Several of Georgia's public and private research universities offer undergraduate and graduate programs in studio art and art education. Students can work toward bachelor's and master's degrees in a variety of art fields. Applications to undergraduate and graduate art programs typically require a portfolio of recent work.


Emory Visual Arts Department


Emory University's Visual Arts Department offers an undergraduate major with concentrations in drawing and painting, photography, film and video, and ceramics and sculpture. Undergraduates can also complete a minor within the department or an art history and visual arts double major. These programs all lead toward the Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree. All Emory art students have the opportunity to participate in an annual student exhibition and open studios event. Emory University tied for 17th in "U.S. News and World Report's" 2010 ranking of national universities.

The University of Georgia Lamar Dodd School of Art


The University of Georgia's Lamar Dodd School of Art offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in a variety of studio areas. Undergraduates can work toward a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree with a concentration in one of 11 different media, including drawing and painting, ceramics, jewelry, printmaking and more. Undergraduates can also work toward a BA in art education and art history. Graduate students can work toward Master of Arts (MA), Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D), Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) or Master of Education (M.Ed.) degrees in art history and art education, or a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degree in one of eight different media. The University of Georgia tied for 37th in "U.S. News and World Report's" 2008 ranking of fine arts graduate schools.

Georgia State University Ernest G. Welch School of Art and Design


Georgia State University's Ernest G. Welch School of Art and Design offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate degree programs in a variety of art fields. Undergraduates can work toward a BA in art history or studio art, or a BFA in art education or studio art. Students working toward the studio art BFA degree can choose one of several concentrations, including drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics, graphic design and more. Students planning to major in studio art or art education must complete an interdisciplinary foundation studies program in their first year. Graduate students can work toward an M.Ed in art education, an MA in art history or an MFA in studio art. Georgia State University tied for 119th in "U.S. News and World Report's" 2008 ranking of fine arts graduate schools.
