Paint Abstract Flowers

An abstract painted flower may have odd colors or shapes.

Painting abstract flowers can get the creative juices flowing in a budding artist. According to the Harley Hahn Art Center, abstract paintings have shapes or colors that do not look like specific objects. This type of painting is a high form of expression and take on the look envisioned only by the creator. When learning this type of art, self-expression is in high regard. Each creation is typically highly individualized and is sometimes interpreted differently by viewers.

Instructions

1. Sketch your vision in pencil.

Sketch the vision of the flower in pencil on your canvas. Draw lines to give an outline composition of the flower interpretation. The flower need not resemble any item in nature.

2. Paint nonuniform lines following the outline of the flower shape.

Paint nonuniform lines following the outline of the flower. Use short strokes of the brush. Leaving obvious brush strokes is acceptable in abstract art.

3. Add shading to the flower.

Add shading to the flower with additional colors or shades of the primary color.

4. Complete the flower by adding an abstract stem and leaves.

Complete the flower by adding an abstract stem and leaves. This step is optional, as the flower is finished when the artist feels it is complete.
