Simple Face Painting Ideas

Simple Face Painting Ideas

Whenever children see a face painter at carnivals, fairs, picnics and parties, they all want to have their face painted. It is easy to learn do it yourself. That way, you can be the face painter at your child's party, instead of hiring someone to do it. Make sure you use non-toxic, water-based paints. The law requires face paints to be approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. To make sure, check the ingredients and then check the "Summary of Color Additives" at the FDA's website. Then, grab a cosmetic sponge, a clean jar of water, some cotton swabs and a towel, and you are ready to go.

Hearts and Rainbows

Use red paint, and be careful to never get red paint near the eyes, because even for FDA-approved face paints, the red is not approved when used near the eyes. Paint a red heart on the cheek. Starting from the top center of the heart, begin your rainbow. Draw a large red arc, and follow with smaller arcs of orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet.

Saturn

This planet is popular because of its ring. Draw a big black circle on the cheek. Fill it in with blue. Let it dry. Outline the ring in black and have it come from the center, curve around the outside and bring it through the ball to the other side. Paint it yellow. You can paint a red ring inside that one if you like. Then paint three small stars around the planet. Some can be yellow and others light blue.

Cherries

Get brown paint or make it by mixing black and red. Make a stem by painting a curved inverted "Y." Then paint two green leaves coming off the top. Have two red cherries hanging from the "Y" end of the stem. Put a white dot on the top right of each cherry so that it looks as if light is reflecting off it.

Balloons

Get black paint and outline three balloons. Place them above the cheek. Get white and draw the string they are tied to. Have the three strings curve toward each other, meet in the middle, and branch off again, and tie them together with a painted contrasting bow. Color in the balloons. Put a white dot off center in the balloons to make it look as though light is reflecting off them.

Teddy Bear

You are only painting the bear's face and a big bow under the face. With black, draw a circle for the face. Draw two ears on top. Color in with yellow or brown. Outline a big bow with black under the circle. Color in the bow with a pretty and contrasting color. Paint two black circles for eyes, a black circle for the nose and a mouth, like two small "u" shapes.
