Easy Cow Crafts For Kids

Cow crafts will help a child expand on what they may already know about cows.

Getting children to do cow crafts is a fun way of teaching them about farm animals and inspires them to use their creativity. There are many different crafts you can choose from. Most of the supplies you will need are probably in your home already.

Sock Cow

Have the kids use any color sock they want to further personalize their craft work.

For each child participating, you will need a white sock, cotton, scissors, construction paper, glue, pipe cleaners, and markers or crayons. Have the kids stuff the sock with cotton to make the head and tie the open end with the pipe cleaner. The kids draw will cow eyes, noses and horns on the construction paper. They can use the markers to color the parts if they want. Have them glue the parts of the cow's head onto the sock. to complete their sock cow.

Clothespin Cow

You'll paint the clothespins, so it doesn't matter what color they are to start.

For each child you will need two clothespins, white cardboard or paper plates, glue, black and white paint, black pipe cleaner, and a pair of scissors. Have the kids paint their clothespins white. These will be used for the legs. Cut two ovals, one big, one small, from the paper plates. Have the kids glue the smaller ovals onto the larger ones to make their cow's body. The kids can paint black spots all over their cows. When the cows are dry, pin the legs on. If you have a small piece of black pipe cleaner or black paper, add horns by gluing it on the back of the cow's head.

Clay Pot Cow

Small clay pots can be purchased at any gardening or home store.

For each child you will need a small clay pot, construction paper, acrylic paint (your color choice), Styrofoam ball (40 mm), black permanent marker, red paper ribbon, and modeling/craft glue. Each child will paint his clay pot and Styrofoam ball white and let them dry. Once the clay pot is dry, paint black spots over it to create a Holstein cow pattern. Allow to dry. Glue the Styrofoam ball to the underside of the clay pot. Cut two slits for the ears and two slits for the cow's horns. Cut the ears and horns out of construction paper and insert into the slits. You may use glue if you want. Use the marker to add your finer facial details, then tie the red ribbon paper around the larger "neck" end.

Toilet Paper Roll Cow

Toilet papers tubes are an ideal size for this craft.

Each child will need a toilet paper roll, crayons or markers, scissors, glue and paper. Have each child draw a cow's face, ears, horns, tail and four legs on paper. Then have the children color the parts with their crayons or markers and cut them out. The toilet paper tube will be used as the cow's main body or torso. The children can glue the parts they draw onto the tubes.
