Cover Floors With Plastic Sheets For Painting

If you would like to completely change the appearance of a room, painting the walls is a basic, inexpensive way to make a major difference. Since painting a room can generally be done in one day, it's a quick change to a room as well. Before you begin painting a room in your home, though, you should cover the floors to protect them from stains that may occur due to dropped paint or spills.

Instructions

1. Measure the room to determine how much plastic sheeting you need to cover the entire floor. Measure the width of the room in both directions to get the length by width.

2. Get a plastic sheet large enough to cover the entire room, if possible. If you cannot find a sheet large enough to cover the entire floor area, buy the largest sheets you can find and get as few sheets as possible. The fewer sheets you use, the fewer gaps you will have, which helps prevent accidental leaks.

3. Lay the sheets down on the floor in the room you plan to paint. Make sure the entire floor's surface is covered by the sheets. If you must use more than one sheet, allow the sheets to overlap by about 12 inches to make sure they don't end up gapping.

4. Secure the plastic sheets in place using duct tape or wide masking tape. Attach the plastic sheets to the base of the walls. If you attach the tape to the baseboards, the tape should not get in the way of your wall painting.

5. Tape the sheets together at every location where they overlap. When taping the plastic sheets together, tape them all the way across the room from one side to the other. Do not leave breaks in the tape where spilled paint may leak thorough and reach the floor.
