Rooster Craft Ideas

Rooster crafts make great gift items.

Young and old love farm animals in crafting and home decor. Roosters are cute and can be made in numerous ways by adults who wish to make quality decorations either for the home or as gifts. Children, also, can create fun crafts with just a few simple materials.

Metal Rooster

Because the metal will need to be cut, this is more of an adult project, or one that would require adult supervision. Find a line-drawn rooster pattern you like. Trace the outline onto a metal sheet. Adding a piece of foam under the metal makes for better embossing. Use your stylus to trace the lines in the rooster pattern, adding lots of detail in the feathers and head. Once all the embossing is completed, cut the rooster out with metal shears. It can either be hung on the wall, or attached to a metal stake and put in the garden.

Decoupage

If you come across those plain paper figures, often in the shape of farm animals, or trinket boxes, spruce them up with colorful papers and markers. Tear the decoupage paper, usually tissue, colorful gift wrap or thin scrap booking paper, into small squares. Cover a small section of the figure with glue, using a paintbrush. Press paper onto figure and, adding a bit more glue, use a paintbrush to smooth into place. Once the figure is covered, let dry and then add details with a permanent fine-tip marker.

Rooster Hand Craft

Cut a rooster-shaped body out of either construction paper or a paper plate. Trace a child's foot for the body shape and cut out two of them. Color the body as desired, then glue edges together, leaving a small opening to stuff with cotton. Glue the opening closed. Next, trace the child's hands and cut out. You will need at least six pairs of hand cutouts. The hands will become the tail and wings. Glue the tail feathers to the toe side of the body cutout. Now, add a beak and other rooster features to the heel side.

Finger Puppets

Teach kids to do simple sewing with this fun felt craft. First, you'll want to cut out two pear shapes using white or light brown felt. Make the bottom flat. With a simple whip stick, sew the front and back sections together along the edge, leaving the bottom open. Then, using red felt, cut out the rooster's comb and wattle. Use craft glue to attach these on the face and top of head. An orange triangle makes the beak. Add googly eyes and now the finger puppet is ready to perform.
