Draw A Tomato

You may use acrylic or water paints to draw an image of a tomato.

Whether you are an aspiring professional artist or a student looking to draw for a school project, drawing a tomato, the fruit that is frequently confused for a vegetable, requires little effort and few materials. However, the more time and better materials you have, the better the image will appear.

Instructions

1. Trace the outline of an oval onto the drawing paper. When using a drawing pencils, avoid heavy lines in case you make an mistake. Remember, a tomato does not have to be perfect oval.

2. Draw palm-tree like leaves at the top of the tomato. Using your drawing pencil, draw the jagged edges of the leaves. Draw a straw sticking out from the leaves to replicate the stem.

3. Color the circle red with acrylic paints, drawing pencils, water colors or markers. If you are using paints, use a filbert brush to color the large areas of the circle. When you get to the edges, use a pointed-tip brush to avoid painting outside the lines. Remember to paint in one direction, either horizontally or vertically. When coloring, apply the same technique -- color in one direction.

4. Color the stem of the tomato green. If you are using paints, use a pointed-tip brush to paint this small area properly.
