Draw floor plans for free online.
Whether you're designing a house for your family to live in, designing a home or office space for a classroom project or designing a home for someone else, keep in mind that you do not have to pay for digital floor plan. Drawing a floor plan online or with free, downloadable software gives you the chance to make edits to your design without worrying about messy eraser marks and helps you make changes quickly and easily. You can also save multiple versions of the same basic floor plan to choose from later.
Instructions
1. Choose a free online service or software download that fits your needs for creating floor plans. For example, if you will need to work on floor plans in locations where you have no internet access, you may want to choose a software download. However, if you don't wish to download yet another program onto your already full computer, you can simply choose to create a free online account at a floor plan-making website.
2. Create an account with the website and validate it through your email address. If you choose to download a program, download the software and restart your computer.
3. Plan out the number and types of rooms you want to place on the level of the house or building you will be drawing. For example, if you want to create a two-story house, plan which rooms should go on which story. If you want to visualize the floor before you design it on your computer, sketch it out on a piece of graph paper.
4. Open the program on your computer or log in to the website and choose a floor plan template with suggested dimensions or create a floor plan from scratch, constructing your own walls. Assign measurements to the walls so you know the size of the rooms you are drawing. Draw walls inside the floor plan to separate rooms from each other.
5. Add doors, closets and windows to your floor plan. Don't forget to add doors to the outside of the house and pay attention to the way the door swings open. Make sure that the way the door swings does not get in the way of walls, walkways or anything else in the room. Keep in mind that these free programs don't have a way of cross-checking your design with building codes. You can educate yourself on these codes by visiting the Codes and Standards page of the National Association of Home Builders or be prepared to make some changes when you sit down with a professional to create the blueprints for your new home.
6. Add different types of flooring to different rooms if the program has the capabilities to do so. This will help create a better visual separation of rooms in the house that may not be separated by walls.
7. Place major appliances like stoves, sinks, toilets, tubs, dishwashers and refrigerators in their appropriate rooms. Add and manipulate furniture in the remainder of the rooms until you achieve the look you are striving for in the home. Save the floor plan and come back to it later or print it to syour family or a professional home builder.
