Draw A Simple Room

Use an actual room as a model for your sketch.

Whether you are creating a floor plan, mapping out an interior design or completing an assignment for a drawing class, drawing rooms can be difficult for even a skilled artist. Drawing everything to scale and making the room look just right seems to always be the most difficult part. As with anything, however, the more you practice, the better you will become at drawing rooms.

Instructions

1. Draw two diagonal lines across the paper. The intersection of these two lines will become your vanishing point for the room.

2. Draw a medium sized rectangle in the middle of the page to mark the back wall of the room. The vanishing point should be located in the middle of the box.

3. On the left side of the page, draw a line from the vanishing point that angles upward toward the left side of the paper. Between this line and the diagonal line at the bottom left, draw two parallel lines that connect the two. The parallel lines are the room's door.

4. Draw one line from the vanishing point that angles upward toward the right side of the paper and another that angles downward toward the right side of the paper. Draw a small rectangle between these lines to create a window. Make sure that the top and bottom of the small rectangle are drawn on the diagonal lines. Draw two diagonal lines within the window to find the center. Use the center point to draw a horizontal and vertical line in the window to create a window pane.

5. Measure eight equal lines on the bottom line of back wall to create flooring. Extend a line from the vanishing point to each of these lines and to the edge of the paper.

6. Create a ceiling the same way that the floor was created. Create another window by drawing a small rectangle on the back wall. Erase all of the draft lines used to create the room.
