Draw Dogs & Cats With Instruction Books

Instruction books are a popular and useful method for teaching beginning artists to draw. Drawing dogs and cats also can be an easy, fun way for beginning artists to get acquainted with drawing animals. Fortunately, there are plenty of instruction books on the market focusing on these domesticated pets.

Instructions

1. Choose an instruction book that has basic instructions for drawing cats and dogs, broken down into simple steps. The book should begin by suggesting materials you'll need to get started.

2. Focus on learning to draw one animal at a time. Choose the appropriate Dover book and look at the list of needed materials. Keep in mind the list is only suggested. A pencil, paper and eraser are all you need to get started.

3. Select the breed of dog or cat you wish to draw. Each of these books contain over 30 breeds. The "Draw Cats" book even includes wild cats such as lions, tigers and cheetahs. Find a quiet location with plenty of light and follow the instructions.

4. Use basic shapes to begin your drawings. The Dover books focus on using circles, triangles and other shapes to get you to understand the structure of dog and cat bodies. This is a useful method used in many art classes.

5. Follow the steps for each of the dogs or cats you want to draw. The steps are easy to understand and broken down into manageable actions you can do with little practice.

6. Try drawing on your own after you've drawn a few dogs or cats using the instruction book. With a little practice and by applying the Dover techniques for drawing cats and dogs, you will soon be able to sketch any cat or dog you want to without using the instruction books.
