Draw A Sports Wall Mural

Murals can be sports-themed to decorate arenas and community centers.

A mural adds color and life to wherever it is located, whether indoors or outdoors. Sports-themed murals can be painted everywhere from the wall of a child's bedroom and in the basement to the exterior of a building such as an arena or community center. This type of mural is effective at both decorating the area and celebrating an accomplishment. Often, sports venues have murals listing the achievements of past players. These murals can be made with basic artistic supplies and some creativity.

Instructions

1. Sketch a rough design for your sports mural on a piece of paper. Make changes until the rough design is an exact replica of how you wish the mural to appear. Using a ruler, draw a light grid over the entire sketch. One way to do this is to draw a grid with 1-inch squares.

2. Wash the wall thoroughly with a sponge and hot, soapy water. If the wall is extremely dirty, it may require spraying with a pressure washer. Allow the wall to dry before beginning work on the sports mural.

3. Draw a large-scale version of the grid you drew on the wall itself. If you drew 1-inch squares on the sketch, perhaps each square could be 1-foot on the wall. It is important to maintain the exact scale when replicating the grid. Doing so will allow you to maintain the proper scale of your drawing when you draw it on the wall.

4. Transfer the drawing to the wall using a pencil. Correct any errors along the way to make the painting process as easy as possible. Adhere to your grid to ensure the drawing remains to scale.

5. Paint the mural using acrylic paints, or another kind of paint if desired. Acrylic paints are waterproof and are easy to clean. Paint the base layer of the mural first, then allow it to dry. When that layer is dry, continue to add other layers until the mural is finished.

6. Paint lettering on the mural, if desired, by holding stencils against the wall and painting within their guides.

7. Trace the outline of any elements of the mural with black, permanent marker to accentuate the borders.

8. Spray one or two coats of clear coat paint on the wall to protect it. Choose either glossy or matte, depending on the look you wish to achieve.
