Ideas To Paint A Snowman By Hand

There are many creative ways to paint a snowman.

When the winter holidays come around, images of snowmen appear in many different forms. Create your own snowman decorations or snowman-themed gifts by trying different ideas to paint a snowman by hand. The more creative you are, the more memorable your snowman painting will be. In many cases, you need very little artistic ability to create a snowman painting by hand.

Spray Paint

With some practice, you can use a can of white general-purpose spray paint to create the foundation of your snowman painting. General-purpose spray paint can be found at your local hardware or home improvement store. Make sure you wear a protective mask and are in a well-ventilated room to avoid any ill effects from the spray paint. Choose a dark paper color so that your snowman will stand out. Shake the spray-paint can and hold it 12 inches away from and directly over the paper. Spray the paint until you get a white circle on the paper. Then move the paint can 4 inches closer and line it up so that the new circle looks like the top of your snowman. The closer you put the spray paint can to the paper, the smaller the circle. Make a snowman that is two or three levels high by moving the paint closer to the paper. Let the snowman dry and use other paints to add a hat, gloves or snow in the background. Crayola Tempera craft paints, or any kind of craft paint, will work for decorating your snowman.

Glass Plate

To make a snowman painting on a glass plate, you only need to be able to trace a snowman drawing that you cut out of a book or drew yourself. Place a clear plate over the image of a snowman that you want on the plate. Make sure the image is lined up exactly as you want it on the plate, the attach it with transparent tape. Using a fine brush and enamel paints, start painting the snowman on the plate using the drawing underneath as a guide. PermEnamel, or any craft enamel paint, will work fine for this project.

Christmas Ornaments

Acrylic paints are the best to use on glass crafts because they adhere well and leave a shimmering finish. Use glass ornaments that are a solid color with no designs on them. It is best to use ornaments that are a solid color as opposed to clear ornaments because your final painting will show up better on colored glass ornaments. Sketch some snowmen on the ornament using a fine-tipped black marker, and then paint the snowmen in using a fine brush and acrylic paint.

Balloon Snowmen

This is a project that is geared more toward children as a Christmas craft, but adults can enjoy this as well. Buy large balloons that are big enough to paint on before you blow them up. Get some brushes and craft paints and paint your snowman designs on them. When you are done, blow the balloons up and see what the design looks like. You can also use three white balloons with painted designs on them as the three segments of a snowman for your living room.
