Identify A Chriscraft Fiberglass Boat

You can tell if it's a Chris Craft if it has the proper hull identification number (HIN).

With a little bit of detective work, you can identify a Chris Craft, as long as you have the boat or its documentation in front of you. If you know the starboard side is the right side of a boat and the stern is the rear of a boat, you can find out whether or not a fiberglass boat is a Chris Craft. Everything you need to know is right there, engraved into the boat itself.

Instructions

1. Locate the manufacturer's name on the boat's certificate of registration or title. If you are unable to locate the boat's certificate of registration or do not have access to the that or the title, walk to the outside stern of the boat.

2. On the starboard side of the transom -- the back wall of the boat -- look for a combination of twelve letters and numbers. This is the hull identification number engraved in every boat made in or brought into the U.S. after November 1, 1972. Each letter and number is approximately 1/4 inch high, within 2 inches of the top of the hull. The HIN may also be on the starboard side, within one foot of the stern. If the boat is a multi-hull, the HIN is found within 1 foot of the junction between the deck and the starboard hull.

3. Copy these letters and numbers using pencil and paper. If the boat is a Chris Craft, the HIN will begin with CCB, CCT or CCU. If the HIN begins with CCH, CCL, CIT, OFV or UNF, it's a Murray Chris Craft, one of the Chris Craft boats built between 1982 and the 1989.
