New Word Art Styles

The newest release of Microsoft Word includes new word art styles.

Microsoft's newest release of its word processing software, Word 2010, includes newly introduced word art styles. These new styles allow you to create unique effects to bring attention to certain areas. To apply the new styles to a block of text, left-click and drag the mouse to select the desired text. Click the "Text Effects" icon from the font panel on the home tab. The icon appears as a glowing, capital "A." Use the drop-down menu from the icon to choose the desired style. Each style has multiple options and the ability to customize the effect.

Word Art Style: Reflection

The reflection style gives the appearance of text reflected in water. The letters are displayed below the word, upside down and backwards. Each letter is displayed directly underneath the original. When applying the style, choose the desired variation within the pop-up box. Choose "Reflection Options" at the bottom of the pop-up box to further customize the appearance.

Word Art Style: Shadow

The shadow style can be customized for the inner or outer shadow. The perspective of the shadow can also be changed, making the text appear to have a shadow in front or behind, or floating. The shadow can be made lighter or darker and moved closer to or farther away from the letters.

Word Art Style: Glow

Glow creates a soft glow around each letter. The glow can be created using the presets that appear in the pop-up window from the "Gradient" menu item. By default, six colors are made available. However, by selecting "More glow colors," the entire palette is available. Use "Glow Options" to change the preset glow, color, size and transparency.

Applying Multiple Styles

Multiple styles can be applied to the same text. Once a style has been applied, keep the text selected and choose the next style. To remove any style, follow the same steps used to apply the filter and unclick the selected style. Remove all the formatting applied to selected text by right-clicking and choosing "clear formatting."
