Teach Drawing Cylinders To Kids

Teach kids to draw basic shapes like cylinders.

Learning to draw shapes is one of the first things kids need to learn to get into art. Once they get the basic shapes down, you can move on to more advanced ones that require perspective and three-dimensions. The cylinder is a good place to start and should be relatively simple for little ones to practice.

Instructions

1. Teach the kids draw a simple oval shape multiple times. Continue this until they can draw two ovals close to the same shape and size.

2. Have the kids draw their best oval on a piece of paper. Have them draw another oval below the one they just drew. It will need to be the same shape and size.

3. Have the kids align a ruler connecting the right edge of the top and bottom oval. Have them draw a line connecting the two, then repeat this on the left side.

4. Have the kids erase the upper section of the lower oval that is inside of the two lines. The kids will now have drawn a cylinder shape like a tin can. Have them try this a few more time, changing the shapes and sizes of the ovals.
