Draw In 2 Point Perspective

Drawings of buildings often require the use of two point perspective.

Two point perspective adds a level of complexity to one point perspective drawing. This method allows art students to illustrate multiple angles of structures and other features that contain geometric components. Perspective drawing gives two dimensional art a sense of depth. The use of two point perspective allows structures to appear as if they project into space toward the viewer. Drawing a rectangular box shape offers a good exercise for learning this technique. While some artists use a grid for this method, it can easily be accomplished with the use of a few simple lines.

Instructions

1. Draw a long horizontal line to represent the horizon using your straight edge.

2. Make a point on the left side of this line near the edge of your page. Repeat on the right side.

3. Draw a short vertical line in the center of your page. This will represent the corner of the box that lies closest to the viewer.

4. Extend a diagonal line from the left point to the bottom of the vertical line. Repeat on the right side.

5. Draw a line from the left point to the top of the vertical line. Repeat on the right side.

6. Draw a short vertical line in between the left point and the vertical line. If you make this line closer to the point, your box will have a long side. If you make it closer to the vertical line, your box will have a short side. Draw this line in between the top diagonal line and the bottom diagonal line. Repeat on the right side.

7. Draw a diagonal line from the left point to the top of the rightmost vertical line.

8. Draw a diagonal line from the right point to the leftmost diagonal line. This completes the box shape.

9. Erase all of the guiding points and lines that lie outside of the box.
