You can learn to paint flowers.
Flowers are much loved and much painted. Famous artists throughout history (like Monet and van Gogh) have put paintbrush to canvas to capture the image of a flower. To paint a flower, you should know the basics of draw a flower or at least be familiar with the different shapes of flowers. Most flowers are based on geometric shapes--like circles, triangles and stars--so you can use these shapes to guide you.
Instructions
1. Sketch a circle on a piece of paper using a pencil. The circle should be as big as you want the flower to be.
2. Sketch an oval within the circle, the size you want the center of the flower to be. Make the oval slightly closer to the top of the circle; this will add perspective as you paint in the petals.
3. Pour a dab of white paint onto another piece of paper, which will be your palette. Next to it, pour another dab of a color (such as red, purple or yellow) for the flower petals.
4. Dab the paintbrush into the white paint, then dab the tip into the other color.
5. Place the tip onto the palette so a circle of paint is formed. Then in one swift movement, pull the paintbrush in a small curve and up off the paper, leaving a shape that looks like a curved teardrop. This is the basic petal shape and will be two-toned, due to the two colors on the paintbrush. Practice this step until you are comfortable with the movement.
6. Reapply paint to the paintbrush. Place the paintbrush at 12 o'clock on the sketched circle. Make a petal shape like you practiced that points toward the sketched oval. It should curve slightly to the right. This is the shortest petal of the flower.
7. Place the paintbrush at 6 o'clock and paint in a petal that points upward, toward the oval. It should be curved slightly to the left and is the longest petal.
8. Repeat at 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock before filling in the gaps with more petals. Reapply paint as needed.
9. Wash the brush, then apply golden paint to the brush.
10. Place the tip of the brush in the center of the oval and make small dots to fill in the oval. Paint over any petal parts that overlap the oval.
11. Apply light yellow to the paintbrush and add more dots to the center oval, concentrating the lighter yellow toward the longest side of the flower to give it dimension. Allow your painting to dry.
12. Erase any visible pencil marks from the initial sketches.
