Stepbystep Instructions On Draw A Bear'S Face

A bear's face is round with a pronounced snout.

By breaking it down into step-by-step instructions a bear's face is mostly just a combination of shapes, particularly circles. To get the best bear's face, draw it slightly at an angle, which will make it easier to see the different parts, as opposed to looking straight on. Draw the bear's face looking to the right, but not a full profile drawing, as you should be able to still see the bear's left eye and ear.

Instructions

1. Draw a circle to make the general shape of the head.

2. Draw a semicircle for each ear on top of the head. For the bear's right ear (what is on the viewer's left side) draw it near the top left of the circle. Start it a few spaces inside the circle, with the ear extending well outside the circle. You may erase the part of the circle that is now covered by the bear's right ear, or you can do that later. The bear's left ear (on the viewer's right side) should start completely on top of the circle on the viewer's right side. This will help give perspective, as the bear's right side is angled closer to the viewer than the other side.

3. Draw the shape of the bear's snout. This will start near the viewer's right side of the face and extend outside the face a little bit. The shape will look similar to a tall hill rotated 90 degrees to the right. The sides should come up in a round point in the middle. At the point, draw the nose that looks like a rounded, upside down triangle with a small nostril hole on the left and the right side. Draw a short, slightly curved to the left, vertical line that begins at the bottom of the nose and goes halfway up. Below this vertical line, draw another short vertical line and then a horizontal curving line (curving slightly upward) going to the left and then another horizontal line going slightly to the right to the end of the snout the viewer is able to see. This will make the shape of the bear's mouth.

4. Add two small circles for eyes. The bear's right eye should be positioned at a spot just slightly above the center of the circle, while the left eye will be closer to the right side of the circle. The line from the top side of the snout will separate them.

5. Erase the bottom of the circle you drew at the beginning of this process and draw a neck, extending the lines from the head down.

6. Draw a small semicircle inside the bear's right ear. Draw part of a semicircle in the bear's left ear. This will help give it definition.

7. Sketch and some lines on the bear's face to give it more definition. For example, run your pencil over the circle outline you drew at the beginning to fill it out some more, and to make it look more like fur. Add a couple lines on the face, to the left, below the bear's right eye, that look like part of the left side of a circle. Near the bear's nose add a couple dots. Add a short curving line under the bear's right eye. These things will give more texture to the drawing.
