The Most Efficient Use Of Ink In Color Printers

Color printers are excellent tools, but the cost of replacement ink can quickly get out of control. The cost of a single set of replacement inkjet cartridges can be even more than the cost of the printer, and the cost of the cartridges for color laser printers can be even higher. Knowing make the most of those ink cartridges is one of the best ways to save money and reduce the cost of printing.

Use Draft Mode

One of the best ways to save money when printing to a color inkjet or laser printer is to make use of the draft setting whenever possible. The draft setting provides a quick and easy way to get your documents from the computer to the printed page, and it does so using much less ink than when printing in normal mode. Try to use draft mode for most of your documents. Save the normal and high quality printer modes for printing documents that absolutely need to be top quality, such as documents that will be sent to clients.

Print in Black and White

Just because your printer is capable of printing in color does not mean that everything you do has to be printed in full color. Using the black-and-white mode on your printer is one of the best ways to make your color cartridges last longer and reduce the per-page cost of printing. It is easy to change to black-and-white mode by using the "Printing Preferences" menu when you send a job to print. Simply printing in black and white can save you a considerable amount of money.

Limit Test Pages

If you are having problems with your printer, printing a test page is one of the best ways to troubleshoot the problem. But printing a test page to a color printer can be very expensive, and it is best to limit the use of these test pages to a bare minimum. Instead of printing a test page, simply open a text file and send that text file to the color printer. This will allow you to test the connectivity of the printer without wasting ink.
