Draw On A Chalkboard

With a little practice, you can draw on a chalkboard successfully

Chalkboard drawings can be artistic, educational or both. As the name implies, you will need chalk to draw on the board. Compared to pencils or paintbrushes, chalk can be a tougher medium to work with. While you can buy chalk of varying length and color, you are limited by the thickness and texture of the instrument. You will need to apply proper pressure and learn to control your movement in order to draw on the chalkboard successfully.

Instructions

1. Grip the chalk firmly between your thumb and forefinger. You can also use a chalk holder, but the grip will be the same.

2. Press the chalk against the chalkboard where you want to start your illustration. Press firmly, but not too hard as you can break the chalk if you put too much pressure on it.

3. Move the chalk along the board to draw your subject. Start slow if you are not used to handling chalk in this way. As you improve you will be able to move faster along the chalkboard.

4. Experiment with different pressures to get the types of lines you want. Again, don't press too hard or the chalk will break.

5. Turn the chalk on its side and use the wide end for shading large areas. Turn the chalk back to its normal orientation to fill in smaller areas.

6. Mix and match the previously mentioned techniques and different colors of chalk to create your drawing.
