Make Oilbased Paints

Creating your own oil paints is easier and faster than you may think. Instead of purchasing oil paints from a store, you can purchase the right items to make different colored oil paints as you need them. It only takes a few minutes and some materials may already be laying around your home.

Instructions

1. Pour about 2 tbsp. of pigment onto a hard, flat, dry surface.

2. Make a small dip in your pigment powder with the palette knife. It should look somewhat like a crater in the middle of your pigment.

3. Pour about 1 tsp. of linseed oil into the dip.

4. Roll the remaining pigment on top of the oil, using your palette knife. It should fold over and the oil should not escape out of the pigment.

5. Continue folding the pigment into the oil with your palette knife and blend the oil with the pigment by smashing the pigment down onto the oil.

6. Use the paint after when it is blended into a smooth paste. Repeat the steps above with different colored pigments to create different colored paints.
