Make Trading Cards With Word
Get your kids into the hobby of trading cards by making your own collection on your computer. Use Microsoft Word to make simple, basic trading cards featuring your family, pets or even items from their rooms with just a few quick clicks. Use cards as a reward for doing chores or as gifts for special occasions. Make cards for yourself to bolster your own collection and trade with friends, showing off vacation photos, artwork or recent doodles.
Instructions
1. Open Word, then click the "Insert" menu at the top of the screen and choose "Text Box." Click on the page, and the text box appears.
2. Right-click the text box and select "Format Text Box." Click the "Size" tab and type 3.5" (inches) into the "Height" box and 2.5" into the "Width" box, then click the "OK" button.
3. Drag the text box into the middle of the page, then use the zoom to bring the screen up to 200 percent so you can see the trading card outline well.
4. (Optional) Click the "Insert" menu, then select "Picture" and choose "From File." Browse to a location on your computer where you have a photo or image stored for the trading card. Double-click it for it to appear on the workspace. Click once on the image, then drag one of the boxes in the picture's corners to resize the picture on the card.
5. Click the "Insert" menu, then select "Picture" and choose "Clip Art." Pull down the "Search in" menu and check all boxes. Pull down the "Results should be" menu and check the "Clip Art" box, "Photographs" box or both. Type a word into the "Search for" box, such as cats, baseball, smiley or something else to find an image for the card.
6. Scroll through the image results and double-click one for it to appear on the card. Resize it by dragging one of the image's corners.
7. Position your cursor inside the trading card's border and type information, such as the name of the person on the card, statistics or a short phase. Highlight the words with your mouse, then choose a font, size and color from the text toolbar at the top of the page.
8. Add more text where desired for the front of the card.
9. Click once on the trading card border to give it focus, then press the "Ctrl" and "C" keys on your keyboard. Then press "Ctrl" and "V" and a copy of the card pastes onto the screen. Drag it down off the other one so they do not overlap at all; this makes the back of your card.
10. Change the picture or clip art (if desired) to a different image for the back by deleting the current one and using "Insert" and "Picture" to replace it. Highlight the text with the mouse and just start typing right over the top of it with new text.
