3. Network to gain connections in the art world. This step is often easier if you went to school for your art or you know other artists, but it can be more difficult for artists who don't have these opportunities. Go to art gala openings, concerts, college art shows and performance art venues to meet people and to showcase your art.
4. Find an agent to represent your art. Ask other artist friends if they have representation and whether or not they are pleased with their services. Shop around before settling on an artist representative, and make sure that you maintain full rights to your art. Have a lawyer look over any contracts before entering into any agreements with an agent or agency.
5. Take any opportunities that come your way in terms of displaying or performing your art. As a musician, performing gigs like public access shows or even playing at a local coffee shop can do more for your career than you think. For a visual artist, it is important to plug your artwork to restaurants for display and sale and to keep your website updated. Support other artists, and they will support you.
