Steps For Grim Reaper Face Painting

Complete your grim reaper costume with some face paint.

The grim reaper makes for a popular Halloween costume because the reaper is an intimidating and scary character. The skeleton face peaking out from a black hood is enough to frighten anyone. The makeup that can help you duplicate this bone-chilling face is basic and can be painted in only a few minutes.

Instructions

1. Load a face-painting sponge with white paint by dipping the edge of the sponge in water and rotating it in the white paint. Paint the entire face white. Dab black face paint around the eyes and under the cheekbones, also using a sponge.

.

2. Load a small round detail brush with black face paint by dipping the brush in water and rubbing it in the black face paint. Paint a line around the black shading of the eyes. Paint a line on the top of the shading of the cheekbone. This should make the cheeks and eyes look hollow and dark.

3. Use the black-loaded small round detail brush to paint two dark black spikes above each nostril on the nose. Hold the brush flat on the upper edge of the nostril and flick it upward onto the nose, lifting the brush as you flick it so it comes to a point at the end.

4. Paint black outlines of half-ovals along the top and bottom lip to make teeth. Fill in two or three of the half-ovals in black to make it look like the teeth are rotten or teeth have fallen out.

5. Use the black loaded small round detail brush to paint cracks that start along the hairline or jawline and move toward the center of the face. Do not paint more than three cracks, or the look will be too busy. Make cracks by painting a thin sweeping line that lifts at the end to a point, and starting from that line make other, shorter, thin lines that branch off from the original line. Make the lines slightly curvy or wiggly.

6. Wear a black hooded cape and carry a scythe to complete your appearance as the grim reaper.
