Be A Life Model

If you would like to make some money and are not shy about your appearance, consider becoming a life model for a figure-drawing class. Body type is not as important as you might expect, and the experience can build self-esteem and confidence.

Instructions

1. Locate a local art instructor and express your interest in being a life model. Ask the instructor if you can sit in on a modeling session. This will help you decide whether you have what it takes to be a life model.

2. Go to the library or a local bookstore and research drawings of the human figure. Look at the poses and try some of them at home. See how long you can hold the pose, and practice until you can be as still as the model you observed at the modeling class you audited.

3. Find a life-drawing job. Check with the instructor who let you observe his or her class. Craigslist, college newspapers or art departments at local colleges and universities often list opportunities, or you can look for fliers posted on college or university campuses.

4. Be on time and dress appropriately. When you book an appointment, be sure to ask the instructor if you need any specific clothes or accessories.

5. Hold the pose that you are expected to maintain. Listen closely to the instructor so you can pose as he or she wants you to.
