Instructions

1. Check your local community college. Tennessee is chock full of community colleges, and the chances are high that you live near either a main or a remote campus (see Resources below). You can check the catalog online and decide whether you want to take a for-credit college class or just a workshop for no credit. Many workshops are open to the public, and you may or may not have to be enrolled in the college.

2. Visit your local college. Many 4-year colleges in Tennessee offer courses that are available to the public for a fee. You do not necessarily have to be enrolled in a program to attend. Check with the local admissions office to find out if there are community classes available at the local 4-year college.

3. Call your community center. Community centers are a great place to find all kinds of classes, from karate to life art drawing. These classes usually last for only a day or a few weeks and are available to anyone for a small fee and the cost of materials. You can usually sit in on classes beforehand and meet the teacher to see if you are compatible.

4. Look under the "art" category in your local phone book to find local art studios that might be offering classes and workshops on life art drawing in Tennessee. Many art cooperatives offer classes to help support local artists and studio spaces. Visit the studio and talk to the artists in residence.

5. Take a private lesson. Some artists offer lessons to help make ends meet or simply because they love to teach. Check online on websites like Craigslist or your local community newspaper to find art classes in your area.
