Polishing an aluminum mirror can bring back the luster and shine that it has been lacking. If the aluminum is dull and dingy, you will not be able to use this piece as a mirror. It is a simple procedure to polish an aluminum mirror. In a few simple steps, it will reflect the shine that has been missing.
Instructions
1. Purchase Met-All Aluminum Polish or an equivalent. Met-All Aluminum Polish is available online as well as some retail stores. This product is used by professionals, lasts for about three to four months and is safe for you as well as the environment. You can use an equivalent aluminum polish. However, be sure to read all the instructions on the polish. For the sake of this article, Met-All Aluminum Polish will be used.
2. Dip your soft towel into the polish. You will want to use a soft material to shine your aluminum mirror because abrasive material can scratch the finish. A quarter-size amount may be sufficient. Apply more as needed.
3. Polish your aluminum mirror. If it is a square or rectangle shape, begin at the top left corner. If your mirror is rounded, begin at the left side. Use a circular motion and rub the polish into the aluminum. Continue to polish until the front of the mirror is finished. Rub the towel over the aluminum one last time to make sure all the polish has soaked into the mirror.
4. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 for the backside of the mirror. Then repolish your aluminum mirror every four months or as needed.
