Transfer a Japanese scenic image to your walls.
Japanese scenery creates a vibrant, cultural motif that instantly adds visual interest and design to a room or set. However, many scenic displays are intricate in nature and may be difficult to replicate in your home. Fortunately, several shortcuts exist to allow you to paint Japanese scenery on your wall or furnishings without being an artistic expert. Whether you want to paint a small scene on a coffee table or paint Japanese scenery on all four walls in your living room, a method to execute the design is available.
Instructions
1. Prep the surface you will be painting. Remove any nails from the wall and fill the holes with putty. Clean the walls with a damp cloth. Sand the surface if you will be painting the scenery to a furniture item. Place painter's tape to cover areas such as molding that you do not want to paint over.
2. Tape the stencil that has the desired design onto the left-hand corner of the surface your are painting. Tape around the four corners of the stencil and reinforce in the middle. Using a stencil brush or foam paintbrush, dip your paintbrush into your first paint color and paint in long strokes in the space provided on your stencil. If you are using different colors for different parts of the stencil, let the first color dry completely before switching to the second color. This way you can avoid accidentally smudging the first color. Let all the paint dry and gently remove the stencil and tape. Tape the stencil to the next desired area on your surface, going from top to bottom and left to right. Repeat your stencil painting until completed.
3. Place a projector several feet away from the area where you want to paint the scenery. Place the paper that has the image that you want to use face down on the projector. Turn the projector on and adjust the focus as necessary. If the image is too large, move the projector backward. If the image is too small, move the projector forward. Use the projector as a template and paint the surface as desired.
4. Pick a simple image such as a cherry blossom that you can easily replicate. Tape the inspirational image to the wall around the area where you will be working. Begin painting the outside of the image, alternating between looking at the image and painting it in a similar manner on your surface. Paint the inside of the image. Add details or other paint colors. Move a few feet away, and paint the image again. Fill the wall until you have duplicated the image as many times as desired to have a cohesive scenic backdrop.
5. Use a paint-by-number scenic mural kit for an easy-to-apply process. Adhere the mural to the wall. Follow the instructions contained in your mural kit. In most instances you need to watch an enclosed video, apply paint to mark the outline of the mural and use the enclosed paint to paint the mural on the wall.
