Choose A Subject Matter For Art Lessons

Not everybody is capable of being a da Vinci or Van Gogh, but nearly everybody has some level of artistic talent. The best art lessons are not intended to show you become a master capable of producing works that one day will hang in the Louvre. An effective art lesson exists to reveal the mechanics of art. For this reason, choosing appropriate subject matter is essential.

Instructions

1. Use fruits and vegetables of various shapes and sizes. When learning about drawing, painting and sculpting, students are often taught to think in terms of geometric shapes like squares, rectangles, cones and circles. The reason so many beginners paint apples, bananas and eggplants sitting in a bowl is that this method of instruction is an effective way to teach the fundamentals of drawing essential shapes while teaching about colors, hues and shades.

2. Find a willing nude model. Nude models have a long tradition in art for a very specific and practical reason. Learning to draw the human body takes the guesswork out of drawing bodies covered by clothing. By studying and drawing the human body in nude form, artists are better able to learn about angles and the position of limbs in movement. For legal reasons, your nude models should be over 18 years old.

3. Expose your students to landscapes. Landscape lessons are vital for teaching perspective, the effects of sun on color, composition and choose a specific focal point for a drawing or painting.

4. Bring to class objects of various textures so that students can learn the fundamentals of gradation and shading. Specific objects to consider would be a furry animal, a metal sculpture, a leather chair or a wooden desk. Learning create certain textures in artwork that appear regularly in the real world is an essential part of becoming a well-rounded artist.
