Create an octopus of your own using Adobe Photoshop.
Whether they're wreaking havoc in science fiction films or appearing as friendly sea creatures in cartoons, octopi and their eight tentacles have been the focus of many adventures. Create your own eight-legged ink-spiller by using Adobe Photoshop. Photoshop's graphic design tools come complete with everything needed to design a cartoon octopus, whether you choose to make yours menacing or ready to give eight high-fives.
Instructions
1. Open Adobe Photoshop. Click the "File" menu and select "New." Type "Octopus" in the "Name" box. Type into the "Width" and "Height" boxes for the preferred dimensions of the octopus canvas. Select "inches" for each. Choose "White" from the "Background Contents" menu and click the "OK" button.
2. Double-click the top-left colored square at the bottom of the "Tools" pane to open the "Color Picker." Choose a color for the main body/head of the octopus, such as pink. Click the "OK" button.
3. Click the "Brush" tool in the middle of the "Tools" pane. Draw an oval shape that takes up the majority of the middle of the "Octopus" canvas, with a slightly bigger arc at the top than the bottom.
4. Click the "Paint Bucket" tool in the middle of the "Tools" pane to fill the head with solid color.
5. Click the "New Layer" icon, which looks like a square with a bent corner in the bottom of the "Layers" palette. A new Layer 1 is added.
6. Click the "Brush" tool again and draw the first tentacle, starting at the body of the octopus, drawing outward to a point and drawing back to the body of the octopus. Take care not to draw off onto the gray part of the Photoshop work area. Click the "Paint Bucket" and click inside the tentacle to fill it with color.
7. Right-click the Layer 1 line in the palette. Select "Duplicate Layer" and click "OK."
8. Click the "Move" tool at the top of the "Tools" pane and drag the second tentacle into place. Rotate it by clicking the "Edit" menu, selecting "Transform" and clicking "Rotate," then slowly turning the tentacle box to hook it up with another part of the octopus body.
9. Repeat the "Duplicate Layer," "Move" and "Rotate" process six more times until you have eight tentacles.
10. Click the lined icon at the top-right of the "Layers" palette and select "Flatten Image." All the layers combine into one.
11. Right-click the "Shape" tool, which may look like a line, gray star, gray circle or gray rectangle. Select "Ellipse Tool." Click into the "Color" box at the top of the workspace and select a color for the octopus eye.
12. Position the cursor on the octopus head, press the "Shift" key and click and drag the cursor to form the eye.
13. Change the "Color" box to white or another preferred color. Repeat the circle-drawing process, but this time make smaller circles all over the tentacles, forming the suckers.
14. Click the "File" menu. Select "Save As," choose a place to save the octopus picture and click the "Save" button.
