Selling digital images online.
Selling digital images online is a large and growing business. As more websites come into existence, the need for royalty-free digital images will increase. Most of these websites and companies purchase pictures from "stock" websites. These websites offer many different images for a small fee. Stock websites also allow individual photographers to sell their images on them. When starting off selling images, working with a stock website is a quick and effective way to get started.
Instructions
1. Create images that people will want to purchase. Avoid attempting to sell personal images such as of your pets, friends or family. Take pictures of generic objects, ideas, emotions and travel destinations. Almost any generic image may sell as a stock picture, such as trees, gardens, sports items, cars, decor and more.
2. Take high quality photos with a professional digital camera that is free from noise, grain and other distortions. Make sure that your pictures meet the quality standard of stock websites that you are trying to upload them to. Generally, the higher resolution and larger the photos, the better price you will obtain from them when selling.
3. Create a digital image portfolio on your own website and upload all of your best images you have taken. Provide a personal and creative statement with your portfolio that defines you as an artist and photographer. Make sure to provide a link to where potential customers can buy your images.
4. Sell your pictures at a fair and respectable price. If you don't have an expansive portfolio you may have to low-ball your prices in the beginning. Price your pictures in fair comparison to similar pictures selling on different websites.
