You can store image data in FileMaker Pro databases using container fields.
The FileMaker Pro application is typically used for storing text information in databases. However, you can also create container fields in FileMaker Pro, which act as image holders and can store pictures in a variety of different formats. By combining text fields with container fields, you can use FileMaker Pro to develop a database for cataloging your personal artwork.
Instructions
1. Launch the FileMaker Pro application on your computer and click on the "Create a New Database" in the "Quick Start" window.
2. Choose a name for the new database, pick where to store it and then click "Save." You will automatically be taken to the window for defining fields in your database.
3. Enter a label for the field that will be used to store your artwork and choose "Container" as the field type. Then click "Create" to add the container field to the database's structure.
4. Create additional text, number or date fields for other information you want to store about your artwork. For example, you may want to create a text field for storing the name of each piece of artwork and a date field to keep track of when each record is added to the database.
5. Press the "OK" button when you are done setting up the fields for your database.
6. Click "New Record" in the toolbar at the top of the window to add a new entry to your artwork catalog.
7. Place your mouse cursor in the center of the blank container field and click once to enter it.
8. Go to the "Insert" menu at the top of the screen and choose "Picture."
9. Double-click on the image you want to add to the database.
10. Fill in the other text, number and date fields with the appropriate information for the artwork in the container field. FileMaker databases save automatically, so you do not need to perform a manual save command.
