Graffiti found on a wall.
Graffiti is basically any type of deliberate markings found in public areas that appear in artistic forms. Some graffiti can be found in written words to the extreme of painted mosaics or spray-painted wall graphics. Graffiti letters are known to have a touch of style to their markings. They come in many different types -- from street style to bubble style. The trick in drawing graffiti bubble letters is to keep all the edges smooth while still maintaining the raw edge of graffiti feel.
Instructions
1. Get out a piece of paper. Make four small dots on a piece of paper with a pencil. The dots should form a rectangle shape. The dots should encompass an area that is as large or small as you'd like the entire word to be. This will allow you to concentrate on each individual letter while having a rough outline on how large the word will be.
2. Draw small vertical lines to reserve a space for each letter within the rectangle. Draw lightly. Make them equally spaced out for the purpose of this exercise -- although they can be differently spaced out so that each letter will exhibit its own size variation.
3. Outline the first letter in the designated space you created. Start from left to right. The key is to draw simple curves. Exaggerate the corners by curving the edges. Blend the letters so they look as if they are melting with the other letters. Keep all the corners soft and billowy. Don't create any sharp edges. Think bubbly and how bubble shapes look.
4. Imitate the same drawing style and bubble effects for each following letter until the whole word is formed. Draw slow as you contort each letter into creative bubble shapes. Concentrate on one letter at a time. Make the letters lean and curl around one another, like clouds pressing up against one another.
5. Compare each letter that you draw with the last one. Make sure that each letter exhibits similar lines and shapes for consistency.
6. Trace the penciled outlines with a marker. Permanent markers are easy to use and create bold effects on paper. Erase all evidence of the rectangle you originally created, including the dots and any visible lines that separate the letters.
7. Color the bold outline of the bubble letters however you want. Be as creative as you want. You can color in values or shadows to make the bubbles look three-dimensional.
