Angel imagery can be used in many aspects of a wedding.
Angel-themed weddings are about innocence, natural beauty and purity. Whether you like the religious aspect of an angel theme or like the idea of ethereal beauty it represents, then there is an angel-themed wedding for you. From angel wings to harpists, there are plenty of tools at your disposal to achieve your angel-themed wedding.
Angels and Cherubs
If your conception of an angel-themed wedding centers on an angel bride, then this is highly achievable and can have a stunning result. Choose a dress that epitomizes your idea of an angel. This could be anything from a grand ball dress reticent of a Disney wedding or a simple slip dress that focuses on beauty found in simplicity. Angel-themed wedding dresses should be white, while the ideal color of the bridesmaids' dresses is a soft, pale pink to create the idea of cherubs. The bride should wear a large pair of angel wings and the bridesmaids should wear small ones. Use angels and cherubs in every part of the decoration to keep the theme continuous. From angel candle holders to napkin holders and name place cards stamped with cherub images, the theme can be robustly implemented. Keep the flower arrangements white and pale pink.
Religious Theme
If you are inspired by an angel theme for your wedding for religious reasons, then focus on this for your wedding day. Have your wedding ceremony in a grand church with stained glass windows that have imagery of angels in them. Make sure any readings at the ceremony and wedding reception are taken from passages of the Bible that talk about angels. According to the Bible, angels have a number of purposes including to be guiding, providing and protective entities. Translate this into some of the defining principles of your wedding. If you are writing your own vows, talk about these characteristics of angels and how they work for you as a couple, too. Have a harpist playing in the church before your ceremony and at the wedding reception. At your wedding reception, you may choose to say a prayer before you sit down to eat. Have a sculpture of an angel at the venue -- this could be an ice sculpture if you want to make it a point of real visual interest -- and stand by the angel to say the prayer.
Heavenly Wedding
Perhaps you like the idea of an angel wedding because of the connotation with heaven and living a perfect life with your husband-to-be. If this is the case, think of what your idea of heaven is and try to translate this into your wedding day. While you should stick to using the angelic colors of white and pastel colors, especially pink, you can introduce some really fun aspects into your day, too. If you love chocolate, for example, have a death-by-chocolate wedding cake. You could cover it in icing made of white chocolate if you want to keep the exterior white. Also have a large chocolate fountain for people to dip fruit and candy into -- it will look really decadent and be a real treat for everyone. As well as using your own ideas of heaven and life's luxuries, also use some traditional heaven imagery. Stick trimmed quilt batting to pillars, guests' chair backs and hanging from the ceilings if you are able to do so. Fluff up the batting to create a cloud effect. Use white fairy lights on pillars and around the rooms of your venues. Use lights inside transparent white vases as centerpieces on your reception tables to complete the heavenly effect.
Grecian Theme
As the word "angel" originates from the Greek word "aggelos," which means messenger, it is appropriate to take the Greek origins of the angelic concept to create a Grecian-themed wedding. Synonymous with a Grecian-themed wedding are togas and thick drapery. Have white or ivory drapes lining the walls at both the ceremony and reception. Choose a high-waisted, floaty Grecian-style wedding dress to fit the theme. Have waitstaff dressed in togas to serve the food and drinks at the reception. Use decorative Grecian-style pillars -- tall, fluted columns with flowers spilling down -- at the wedding to add to the effect. Twist ivy around the columns and around other objects such as the guests' chair backs. Have a number of ivory pillar candles around the venue, and twist some ivory at the bottom of them to continue the Grecian theme.
