Be A Fashion Model For A Store

Modeling for a store might look like an easy job. But landing that job, whether as a fashion model for a local department store or a chain store on a national level, is not an easy task. You must be persistent, professional and ready to put your ego on the line.

Instructions

1. Call the store manager. Ask whether the store hires models directly or uses an agency. For example, Abercrombie & Fitch shops hire models who also must provide customer service. Kohl's works through Milwaukee-area talent agencies to find "fresh faces" for its print and broadcast ads. Kohl's also works with well-known national modeling agencies, including Elite and Ford.

2. Have photos ready. They're your calling card for all modeling work. Create a composite or "comp card" with your headshot and personal information. Be creative, but make sure the information is clear. You'll be handing this to a store manager or leaving it at an agency to show off your look and personality. If you're called back, you'll be asked to show your portfolio, a collection of photos and examples of any work you've done. Include a variety of shots by a variety of photographers to show your range.

3. Talk to professionals who use models. Photographers, advertising agencies, graphic design firms, public relation outlets and casting companies can be found in the phone book or online. Call, e-mail or drop in and dazzle them in person. Ask whether they have jobs or can steer you to employers who might need models.

4. Seek out modeling classes. These could provide some local contacts and will probably boost your confidence. Generally, though, you don't need classes to become a successful fashion model.
