The term restoration as it relates to mold and fire means the removal or remediation of debris and contaminants after a fire, flood or mold contamination. Without restoration, mold and fire damage can present a risk to health and violate regulations.
What Is Restoration?
In general, restoration includes the removal and storage of belongings, the cleaning of all surfaces affected by fire and mold damage and the restoration of the property. This includes the cleaning of walls and flooring and the prevention of mold regrowth or smoke odors.
Mold Restoration
Mold restoration treatment encompasses identifying the source of moisture and mold and testing mold samples to determine if exposure is a serious health hazard. Restoration steps include the complete removal, decontamination and cleanup of the affected area and its contents. Mold restoration equipment can include dehumidifiers, industrial air machines and negative air machines. Often, the area will be treated with an anti-mold biocide.
Fire Restoration
Fire remediation and restoration begins with the removal of damaged debris, drying of any areas damaged by water from fire hoses or sprinklers and the general cleanup of soot and ash. Contents will be removed for washing and deodorizing, and the heating and ventilation system will be cleaned to prevent the recirculation of hazardous particulates. Finally, fire restoration might include rebuilding the structure or renovating it to its original condition.
