Paint Flames On A Car

To make your car or truck look really hot, you've got to paint some smoking hot, red flames on the side of the vehicle. It doesn't take a Davinci to give your car the latest look. All you need is the right template, a little time and some great paint to give your car or truck the best flames on the block.

Instructions

1. Draw a free hand sketch of the flames you want to paint on your car. If possible, do this to scale, using graph paper to give you a better sense of where the lines and curves are really going to fall, and to give your car the best look possible.

2. Create a template of your flames by expanding the graph on a full size sheet of poster board. Just multiply the scale by however many units you reduced it from in the first place. Cut the template out, leaving the flame itself on the posterboard.

3. Tape the template onto your car body, you don't have to do the whole thing at once. You can use several templates to complete the masking phase.

4. Mask off the area around the flame using the template with masking tape or painters tape. Tape is the best way to go, paint on masking is hard to remove and too expensive for this use.

5. Remove the template and touch up your masked-off areas. Be certain all parts of the car are masked, including the wind shield, mirrors, tires and any chrome. Don't paint the chrome, even if it cuts through your flames.

6. Paint on your flame color, first in a brick or candy red.

7. Using an air brush, add orange or blue to highlight your flames. Be careful and only apply the orange in the trough of the flames, near the center, or around the edges in smaller lines that blur into the flame. You can also swap the red for the orange.
