The "flower child" era may be long over, but that doesn't mean that all aspects of the era are long gone. Painting flowers on a face can be a fun activity to do with your children on any day. The best part about face painting is that you really don't need any artistic ability in order to do it. Use these simple tips, and you will be able to paint a flower on a face in just a couple of minutes.
Instructions
1. Choose two colors to use when painting flowers on a face. One color will be for the petals of the flowers, and the other will be for center of the flowers. You can also choose to use several different colors for the petals if you wish.
2. Examine the face carefully. Pick the perfect place for painting. The size and shape of the person's face will determine the size of your flowers. Visualize the flowers and decide how many petals you want to paint. Most people will choose either four or five per flower. The number depends on the overall size of the flowers. Obviously, the cheek is the most popular spot for face painting.
3. Dip the tip of a a small or medium round face painting brush into the face paint. You'll only need a small amount of paint to start. That's because you'll start with only an outline.
4. Begin painting the first petal of your flower onto the face. The easiest shape to paint is the "teardrop" shape. Gently brush the paint on the person's cheek as you make the outline of the petal. The width of the petal will be determined by how much space you have to work and how many petals you plant to paint. The "pointy" end of the petal should be facing what will be the center of the flower. Each petal shouldn't be more than one inch in length.
5. Color in the rest of the petal. Dip one side of the brush into the paint so that it is covered--but not dripping--in paint. Gently brush the paint on the inside of the petal to color it in. Follow the pattern of the petal to ensure that the color is distributed evenly.
6. Move roughly one centimeter either clockwise or counterclockwise. Do whichever you prefer. Begin painting the next petal. Remember that the pointy end of your teardrop must face the center of the flower. The petals should not touch, though. Try to make this petal the same size as your first.
7. Repeat Step 6 until you have painted all of the petals of your flower. Once you have completed all of the petals, the end of each one should be pointed towards a small portion of skin that has not been painted yet.
8. Use a different brush (or simply rinse off the brush you were using) to paint the center of your flower. For this, simply dip the end of your brush into a different color of paint. Again, your brush shouldn't be dripping with paint, but it should be saturated enough so that it will cover the skin. Once you've done this, dot the end of the brush onto the center of your flower. This will create a small circle. You can do this once more if you wish for the center of your flower to be bigger.
