Draw A Mouse In Illustrator

Use Illustrator to create your own mouse graphic.

If you are working with graphics, you often find yourself creating drawings of people, animals or other creatures. For example, you might want to create a simple stylized mouse for an ad, logo or sign. While you might think that you will need a bitmap application in which to paint your mouse, you can in fact easily make a vector based mouse using the various tools and functions of Illustrator.

Instructions

1. Click on the desktop shortcut to start the Illustrator application. Select "File" from the menu at the top and click "Open." In the dialog that pops up, enter the pixel width and height you want for your mouse graphic, and click "OK."

2. Select the "Ellipse" tool from the toolbar. Go to the options at the top and change the color to a light gray. Set the "Stroke" to "None." Drag on the canvas to create the torso of the mouse. Create another ellipse overlapping the previous one slightly to be the abdomen of the mouse.

3. Select the "Pen" tool from the toolbar. In the options at the top, set the "Fill" to light gray and the "Stroke" to "None." Use to tool to draw the neck and head of the mouse. Use the tool to draw legs. Draw claws as well, changing the fill color to an off white.

4. Use the "Ellipse" tool to add a white eye and then a large black pupil. Then add a white highlight for the eye. Use the "Pen" tool to add long white eyelashes and whisker.

5. Use the "Pen" tool to draw the mouth, including white protruding teeth. Add a black nose and save your work.
