Draw A Poster Sized Gingerbread Man

Use the image of a gingerbread man cookie to draw a poster-sized version.

Drawing a gingerbread man is a wonderful way to display your creativity and imagination. Practice mastering your drawing technique on small pieces of paper before moving to large, poster-sized versions. Once you are ready, place a 22-inch by 28-inch sheet of paper or poster board flat on a table and get to work. Use pencils for the initial outline stenciling --- so mistakes are erasable --- and complete the drawing by shading your gingerbread man in with colors of your choice.

Instructions

1. Stencil a straight line down the middle of the poster board --- from the top to 2/3 of the way down. This line marks the center of the gingerbread man's body. Draw a long horizontal line through the middle of the vertical line. Trace three shorter horizontal lines at the top of the vertical line. The long horizontal line will center your gingerbread man's arms, while the three shorter lines center the head.

2. Loop a circle around the three horizontal lines to complete the head outline. Draw two eyes in between the top two horizontal lines. Center a smile along the bottom horizontal line.

3. Draw the bottom of the arms. Begin at the end point of the left arm. Swoop the line down, back up and down --- in the shape of a letter "S" --- to where the end point of the bottom of the arm is even with the bottom of the vertical line. Repeat for the underside of the right arm.

4. Finish the upper arms. Start at the left, end point of the long horizontal line. Mirror the "S" looping shape that connects to the gingerbread man's chin. Repeat this step to complete the upper side of the right arm.

5. Add three gingerbread man buttons that begin at the cross point between the large vertical and horizontal lines and extend down to the bottom of the vertical line.

6. Draw the legs. Begin at the bottom "S" point on the underside of the left arm. Make a giant pear-shaped loop that connects with the bottom tip of the bottom of the long vertical line. Repeat this step to complete the right leg.

7. Color in the gingerbread man as your imagination suits you. Use bold and pastel colors --- dark brown and light pink, for example --- for contrast and to boost the visual impact of the gingerbread man.
