Paint A Princess

Accessories are an integral part of drawing princesses.

The key to painting a princess is the accessories you choose to add, specifically a crown, garish jewelry, an overstated hairstyle, and a dress that is long, flowing and brightly colored. When choosing the color palette for your princess, select a wide array of oscillating and energetic colors, such as pink, fuchsia, pale yellow and magenta. Composing the correct palette for the lips, eyes and skin tone is also a crucial part of the process.

Instructions

1. Sketch the figure of a princess on your canvas or drawing pad. Shade the areas of her body that require contrast for creating the illusion of a third dimension.

2. Mix the colors of your acrylic paint on your palette. Blending a magenta and pink color combination is ideal for the "classic" princess look evident in most illustrated fairy tales.

3. Apply rapid brush strokes to the dress, painting in a vertical direction. Wash the paintbrush as needed.

4. Switch to a thinner paintbrush to paint the facial features of the princess. Green eyes with red lips make for a stunning and dramatic appearance. Princesses with olive or tan skin are also a departure from the norm of the porcelain color of the "traditional" princess. Choose hair color based on the skin tone you opt for.

5. Paint the crown or tiara with subtle tones. Making the crown understated is actually what draws the eye to it.
