There are several schools, throughout the United States, dedicated to teaching both basic techniques and much more advanced classes. West Art Picture Framing School


West Art Picture Framing School, located in northern Idaho, offers both beginner and advanced classes. Each class runs for five days. To ensure individualized training, class size is limited to two students. Tuition includes all necessary class materials, breakfast and lunch each day and certificate of completion.


Owner/instructor Ray Dwyer has more than 20 years experience as a professional picture framer. He is the recipient of numerous industry awards, as well.


Beginner classes teach the basics of tools and equipment, workshop arrangement, locating suppliers, mat measuring and cutting, mounting, frame construction, glass cutting, interacting with clients and pricing guidelines. Advanced classes are available to professional framers who want to improve on their artistic skills and increase business. Special tools, inlay mats, frame stacking and glass etching are just a few of the topics covered.

New England Framing Academy


New England Framing Academy, located in historic Keene New Hampshire, offers seven different workshops throughout the year. School director/instructor, Bill Stretch, is a certified picture framer with more than 20 years experience to his credit. Classes are small and each student works at his or her own workstation.


Both novice and intermediate workshops are offered. Methods covered include, but are not limited to: shop layout, locating suppliers, the theory of color, mat design and cutting, glass safety and cutting, frame assembly and customer relations. The school also provides unlimited technical support and advice to course graduates.

ABC School of Picture Framing


ABC School of Picture Framing, located in New York, holds one-on-one classes that can be scheduled at anytime. Students choose two-day, four-day or advanced workshops. Instruction is provided by studio owner, Frank Miragliotta.


Mr. Miragliotta, a professional framer for more than 30 years has built a successful corporate client base. His work is displayed in many restaurants, hospitals and other businesses.


Tuition includes all necessary materials and companion workbook. The two-day workshop covers topics such as mat cutting, design and color, frame assembly, glazing and more. The four-day workshop teaches additional methods including, cuttings frames, use of templates, designer mat cutting, types of artwork and basic business practices.
