Choose a Pencil for Sketching and Line Drawing
There is a world of difference to the pencil that is used for sketching and a pencil that is used for writing. It's very important to choose the correct pencil for your sketching and line drawings so that your work projects the effort you have put into it. Use some of the suggestions that follow to help you choose the correct pencil for your sketching and line drawings.
Instructions
1. Purchase sketching pencils that are made of graphite. These will have numbers printed on the pencil itself, which indicates whether it is soft or hard. A 2B printed on a graphite drawing pencil will tell you that it is a medium soft or a smooth line.
2. Look for graphite drawing pencils with 6B or 8B if you are planning to do shading on your sketching and need a darker, yet very soft pencil. These type of pencils will blend well for you.
3. Use the graphite pencils with an H on them if you do not need to blend. These are a hard pencil and will not work well for blending, but may be just what you need for a line drawing.
4. Draw your sketches or pencil drawings with colored pencils, such as Prismacolors, if you want to add color to the sketches. These are nice quality drawing and sketching pencils available in most all art supply centers.
5. Protect your sketches and line drawings by using the proper eraser when needed. Do not use a standard pencil eraser as that will damage your drawing or sketching paper. Instead, use an eraser designed specifically for the graphite pencils and other drawing pencils, a mead gum eraser. It looks rather stretchy and gummy, but it is wonderful for your sketches and line drawings, as it leaves no marks or residue.
