Find Facts On Picasso

Picasso's artwork can be found in museums throughout the world.


Pablo Picasso was born in Malaga along Spain's Costa del Sol in 1881 where he grew up the son of an art professor. Picasso settled in Paris in the spring of 1904 after a two-month visit to the French capital in 1900 left a deep impression. Picasso reached the pinnacle of his success with the advent of Analytical Cubism, the art movement begun by Picasso and Georges Braque during their 1909-1912 collaboration. There are many ways to find facts on an artist as famous and well-respected as Pablo Picasso including biography sites, library research, museum visits and online art databases.

1. Search online art and art history databases like ArtNet. The ArtNet database holds information on over 180,000 artists including Pablo Picasso. Artist profiles include artwork for sale, galleries, market reports and past sell prices and relevant ArtNet articles. ArtNet profiles also include a time-line biography, a list of significant exhibitions and links to further information.


2. Search public libraries for texts on the life and artwork of Pablo Picasso. Find a local public library by visiting the National Center for Education Statistic's Search for Public Libraries web page (See Resources). Locate any public library throughout the United States and visit one near you to check for reference information and books on Pablo Picasso.


3. Visit ArtCylopedia online for a complete listing of art museums which exhibit works by Pablo Picasso (See Resources). Select a museum convenient to you and plan a visit. Art museums display the works and often have bookshops and libraries where scholarly works can be purchased or viewed. Museum tours will also provide valuable facts about the artists displayed. Try requesting an audience with the museum curator and ask for information you have not been able to find otherwise . There are several museums dedicated to the life and work of Picasso which will make particularly good sources such as the Museu Picasso in the artists home town of Malaga, Spain or the Musee National Picasso in Paris, France.


4. Search online biography sites like Biography.com. These sites provide concise but complete biographies of the artist including essential background, family life, career information and important achievements. They also suggest additional sources worth investigating if even more facts are required.
